AWS re:Invent 2017: My Final Schedule

29. October 2017 22:00 by Aaron Medacco | 0 Comments

After a disastrous rollout of reserved seating for re:Invent 2017, where many attendees could not reserve session seating when it was made available, my final schedule for re:Invent 2017 is set. Thanks to some Twitter heroes who announced that you could reset your re:Invent account password as a workaround, people (including me) were able to start getting their seats, although many sessions were already full.

Twitter Hero

I'd like to give AWS the benefit of the doubt, but re:Invent tickets aren't cheap, and some people are traveling halfway across the world for this event. Being locked out of the sessions they'd like to attend because of a faulty website whose development was likely outsourced is ridiculous. Apparently, there were similar issues for last year's re:Invent 2016, but I didn't experience those firsthand. Needless to say, many people weren't shy about their frustration.

Twitter Anger

Water under the bridge. Hopefully, next year Amazon will use their own engineers to develop next year's seat reservation site.

In my case, I was able to reserve a spot in almost all the sessions I was interested in. And what I mean is I was able to fill the schedule of one man in Vegas who can't be in multiple spots at once. There's over 1100 sessions this year, so I'll have to take to YouTube later to see all the content I'm going to miss due to scheduling conflicts. I still have a few unreasonable blocks that are back-to-back which I'll likely have to give up. That or be lucky all the seats aren't taken by the time I run across the strip.

Feel free to come say hello if you see me at one of sessions or out and about. I'd love to have a chat or exchange ideas with others in the community.
